Band Blast Port Macquarie - FINAL INFORMATION and ITINERARY

Dear Latin Jazz Ensemble Members (Port Macquarie, Big
Band Blast):
Here is final information for the Port Macquarie trip
for Big Band Blast. Next Wednesday, May 29th I will hold a brief meeting in the
Auditorium at 6:30-7pm if anyone has any further questions or comments
regarding this trip.
Accommodation:

Rooming:
We will be staying in self-contained cabins with fully equipped bathrooms. Each band member and chaperone will have
his/her own bed. All linen, blankets, towels, and pillows are provided. A rooming list is attached.
Chaperones:
There are four
chaperones that will be sharing driving duties of the 12
passenger vans: Me, Sally Kidall (Tim’s Mom), Karen Wasley (Izaak’s Mom), Terry
Rusden (Kurtis’ Dad). Also driving
separately, but coming along are Rose Purdon and Miriam Chin (Jack and Sam’s
Mom’s). Chaperones will be responsible
for supervision of students as well as making sure that everyone is fed and
comfortable.
Food/Meals:
Bring
morning tea and lunch or
lunch money for the Friday trip to Port Macquarie. All other meals will be provided. There will
be fresh fruit and other light snacks available between meals. We will be eating morning meals (cereal,
toast, fruit) and lunches (sandwiches etc) at camp.
Getting
Around:
All
the Concerts, workshops, and the parade are within walking distance from our
cabins.
Bring:
Black
Con Shirt
Black Pants
Black or Dark Shoes
A Hat (for outside performances)
Water Bottle
Warm Jacket for being out at night and mornings.
Clothes and toiletries for three days and two nights
Your instrument and all of its parts (extra reeds, tuner, leads, mouthpiece,
valve oil)
Drummers bring your sticks.
Equipment:
Drums
with Cymbals, bass and guitar amps will
be provided.
We will be bringing the timbales, congas, and hand percussion as well.
Money (optional) to buy a souvenir or snacks.
Please do NOT bring a lot of money.
Rose Purdon will transport equipment and Baggage that does not fit in Vans.

Friday,
May 31
9:30am
– Arrive at Wollongong Con/Load Gear
10am – Leave Wollongong Con For Port Macquarie (est driving time 5.5
hours).
Bring morning tea.
Bring bag lunch or money to purchase lunch en route.
Arrive 5pm at Port Macquarie
Check into Rooms
Dinner at nearby restaurant.
6:30pm – Attend Welcome Concert by John Morrison
8pm - Attend Swing Dance Party concert
10pm – Lights Out/Bed Time
Saturday,
June 1st
8:30am
– Wakeup and have breakfast at tourist park (cereal, toast, fruit. etc)
10am-12pm – Walk into town and listen to other bands perform.
12pm-1pm – Return to Camp for Lunch at Holiday Park (make our own)
3-4pm – Performance Wollongong Latin Jazz Ensemble Performs at Glasshouse Forecourt
Stage
5pm – Return to Camp
6pm – Dinner at nearby Restaurant
7:30pm –Judy Bailys Jazz Connection Big Band Concert At Glasshouse
Regional Arts Complex
10pm – Lights out / Bed Time
Sunday,
June 2nd
8am
– Wake up/breakfast at park.
9-11am – Participate in New Orleans Street Parade/Gospel Jam Session
11am – Early Lunch at Camp
12-2pm – Attend various Workshops
2pm – Final Session with John Morrison and Performing Arts Unit Jazz
Orchestra
3pm – Leave for return to Wollongong
Dinner En Route back to Wollongong
9pm-10pm – Arrive in Wollongong
Student
Expectations and rules:
-Students may break away from the large group during the day to attend
different concerts or workshops. They must always let a chaperone know
where they are, and must always be in a group of 3 or more people.
-Students and Parents must sign the attached Code of Conduct before they will
be allowed on this trip.
-All students must turn in an indemnity form before they will be allowed on
this trip. Indemnity forms are taken
with me on this trip. Most of you have turned these in. I will contact you directly if I do not have
yours on file.
